Dr Bailey Carrodus established Yarra Yering in 1969. Equipped with a degree in botany, another in winemaking and an Oxford doctorate for research in plant physiology, he produced his first vintage in 1973.

What he established has been built upon by Paul Bridgeman, the winemaker he appointed in the months before his death in 2008, and since 2013 by Sarah Crowe, as well as the vineyard staff who have tended the vines at Yarra Yering some for more than 30 years.

Planted by Dr Carrodus the Yarra Yering vineyard is at the foot of the Warramate Hills in Victoria's Yarra Valley. The vines grow on a gentle, north facing slope of deep grey silty loam shot through with bands of gravel. The low yielding, unirrigated vines produce fruit with great intensity of flavour and natural acidity.

The wine is still made in the original winery using its purpose built equipment. New varieties have been planted to supplement the traditional Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Chardonnay.

Yarra Yering’s lead Carrodus range is sourced from old vine stock. Their famous red wine blends are named, simply enough, Dry Red Wine No. 1, 2 and 3.

They are one of Australia's most iconic brands with an outstanding reputation.
